HISTORICAL PROFILE
The F-35 Lightning II originated from the JSF programme to develop a fifth-generation multirole fighter intended to replace US and NATO attack aircraft. The F-35B version uses stealth technology and STOVL capability for short take-off and vertical landing, designed to operate from modern aircraft carriers such as HMS Queen Elizabeth and Cavour. Italeri also notes its planned use by the United States Marine Corps in attack and ground-support missions.
