HISTORY OF THE LVT-4
The LVTs, also known as Amtracs, were developed to provide the United States Army and Marine Corps with a protected means of conducting amphibious operations. The LVT-4 moved the engine to a central position and incorporated a rear ramp to speed up the loading and unloading of light vehicles or small-calibre artillery pieces. It was the most successful and most extensively produced version of the series.
