HISTORY OF THE RF-4E PHANTOM II
- The RF-4E was the unarmed reconnaissance version of the two-seat McDonnell Douglas Phantom II.
- It was developed for export, combining the reconnaissance systems of the RF-4C with the airframe and improved engines of the F-4E.
- The Luftwaffe received its first examples in the early 1970s; it was also used by Japan, Iran, Israel and Greece.
