HISTORY OF THE M12 GUN MOTOR CARRIAGE
The GMC M12 was used by the United States Army during the Second World War. It was developed on the chassis of the M3 Lee/Grant tank and was fitted with a French 155 mm GPF gun. Its open rear compartment housed the armament, ammunition and crew, while the driver’s and radio operator’s positions were protected. To counter the gun’s recoil, the vehicle used a rear spade that was lowered and secured to the ground.
