HISTORY OF THE WESSEX UH.5
- Westland manufactured the Wessex under licence from the American Sikorsky S-58 “Choctaw” project, equipped with a British Rolls-Royce turbine producing 1,200 hp.
- The Royal Navy used the Wessex on various missions for almost three decades.
- The UH.5 version took part in the 1982 Falklands War, carrying out tactical transport duties and transporting Royal Marines Commandos during assault and infiltration operations.
