HISTORY OF THE AW101 MERLIN
The AW101 Merlin was developed by AgustaWestland, now Leonardo, together with Westland Helicopters to meet the requirements of the British Royal Navy and the Italian Marina Militare as a replacement for the SH-3D Sea King. It entered service in the early 2000s as a shipborne anti-submarine warfare helicopter, although its configurations also enable troop transport, maritime search and rescue, and CSAR missions.
