HISTORY OF THE B-17F “MEMPHIS BELLE”
The Boeing B-17 became a symbol of the heavily armed strategic bombers of the Second World War. According to Revell, the B-17F Memphis Belle, named after its pilot’s girlfriend, was the first US Army Air Force bomber in Europe to survive 25 missions; it later appeared in a Hollywood film and is preserved as a monument in Memphis.
