HISTORY OF THE P-51D MUSTANG
- The P-51D variant featured a revised cockpit and rear fuselage section, as well as increased internal fuel capacity.
- Its range enabled it to escort bomber formations between England and Berlin from March 1944.
- It was armed with six 12.7 mm machine guns in the wings and could carry two 225 kg bombs or eight rockets instead of the auxiliary fuel tanks.
