Italeri Leipzig 1813 - Battle of the Nations Diorama. Scale 1:72. The Battle of Leipzig was fought in October 1813 and was one of the most important engagements of the Napoleonic Wars. It is also known as the “Battle of the Nations” because of the large number of armies that took part. On the battlefield, Napoleon’s reorganised French army, rebuilt after the severe defeat suffered during the Russian campaign and supported by some allied states, faced the armies of the Sixth Coalition, mainly composed of Russia, Prussia, Austria and Sweden. The battle took place from 16 to 19 October near the German city of Leipzig and marked the beginning of the definitive decline of Napoleon’s rule in Europe. Napoleon’s extraordinary military ability was not enough to counter the numerical superiority of the forces deployed by the rulers of the Sixth Coalition.
