HISTORY OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
The Statue of Liberty, also known as Liberty Enlightening the World, is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. Designed by the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel, it was dedicated on 28 October 1886 as a gift from the people of France to the United States. The figure represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty.
