HISTORY OF THE DEUTSCHE AFRIKA KORPS
- The first troops of the Deutsche Afrika Korps were sent to North Africa in February 1941, following the loss of Cyrenaica.
- Under the command of General Erwin Rommel, the Axis forces recaptured Cyrenaica and Tobruk and advanced towards Egypt.
- After the defeat against the British 8th Army at El Alamein and the pressure resulting from the American arrival in Morocco, the Afrika Korps gradually withdrew to Tunisia in 1943.
