HISTORICAL CONTEXT
- According to Italeri, the forces of Vietnam’s National Liberation Front brought together regular North Vietnamese units and irregular guerrilla fighters.
- The term Vietcong was used generically for the Front’s soldiers, although it is usually associated with the irregular guerrillas.
- Italeri points out the use of Soviet-made weapons, such as the AK-47 rifle and the SKS semi-automatic carbine, as well as their participation in the Tet Offensive in January 1968.
