HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Light infantry, formed by units such as Chasseurs, Tirailleurs and Voltigeurs, usually preceded the line infantry. Their task was to harass the enemy, disrupt its formations and attack command elements such as officers, drummers and standard-bearers. The Imperial Guard also included light infantry regiments.
