HISTORY OF THE UNITS REPRESENTED
- The Chevau-Légers Polonaise Regiment and the Chevau-Légers-Lanciers Regiment, known as the “Red Lancers” because of the colour of their uniforms, were among the best-known cavalry units of Napoleon’s Imperial Guard.
- They were formed in 1807 and 1810 through the incorporation of Polish and Dutch units after the annexation of their countries.
- Their attire was distinguished by the czapska cap and the lances characteristic of this specialty.
