HISTORY OF THE FIAT CR.42
The C.R.42 “Falco” was developed by Fiat in the late 1930s based on the experience gained with the C.R.32 “Freccia”. It retained the fixed landing gear and open cockpit, with an aluminium and steel structure covered with metal and fabric. Its air-cooled Fiat A.74 radial engine enabled it to reach 400 km/h. The night fighter version featured elongated exhausts to reduce its visibility to the enemy during night operations.
