HISTORY OF THE REGGIANE RE.2002 ARIETE
The Re.2002 was developed for the Regia Aeronautica as a ground-attack aircraft based on the Re.2000 airframe. It featured a higher-performance engine, reinforced armament with two additional machine guns in the wings and the capacity to carry up to 500 kg of bombs. Its units took part in operations against the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943 and, following the Italian armistice in September of that year, it was also used by the German Luftwaffe.
