HISTORY OF THE A-10 THUNDERBOLT II
The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II was developed in the 1970s for close air support missions and attacks against tanks and armoured vehicles. Its design incorporates two General Electric turbofan engines, the 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger rotary cannon and eleven pylons under the wings and fuselage. It first entered combat during the 1991 Gulf War, where it demonstrated its effectiveness against armoured targets.
